This classic is a childhood favorite of mine. Set in Puritan New England, this chapter book follows Kit as she tries to adapt to lilfe in a new place with family she doesn't know. This book stays with me because of its complex yet heartwarming depiction of relationships among family and friends.
Many don't realize that Mary Shelley invented the science firction genre when she wrote Frankenstein. This illustrated fictional tale tells of how Mary was inspired to write the novel, along with some perfectly spooky illustrations.
Hear me out on this one - history is full of fascinating characters whose importance we don't always realize. Eleanor of Aquitaine is one such figure, and this biography gives a nice summary of her life and contributions to Western society.
