The Civil War: A Hometown View presented by Kim Heltemes

Area historian Kim Heltemes looks at the local impact of the Civil War and the history of veterans from Butte des Morts, Winneconne, Oshkosh and surrounding areas.

He’ll  examine the role our citizens played in this historic conflict, public sentiment toward the war and the role our local soldiers played in the pivotal Battle at Gettysburg.

Heltemes, who has been fascinated with the Civil War since age 10, is a Deputy Commander of the Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War. He has authored several books and has accumulated about 8,000 photos of early America in central Wisconsin.  Presented in the Lower level meeting room.
