Smart Starts Play Stations

Spend the morning experiencing six to eight play-based stations that encourage exploratory learning, parent/child interaction and early literacy skills. Drop in anytime.

Explorer’s Grove - Lower Level Children's Department

Relax at the end of the day with storytime and an activity. Stories by Starlight is a great way to connect with your child while encouraging the habit of reading. This program was developed for families of preschoolers. Jammies and favorite blankets are welcomed.

Creature Carnival
Oct. 1 – 26
Beasts, monsters, magical beings, robots, aliens - all are welcome at the Creature Carnival! Kids and teens bring your original creations between Oct. 1 and Oct. 26, accompanied by its description or backstory. Use any materials for your entry, but please be sure it is freestanding and no larger than 24” W X 12”. Judging takes place Oct. 28 with results announced Oct. 29. Pick up your creatures by Nov. 1. The earlier you submit your creature, the longer it has to gain votes for the People’s Choice award.

Top two places in these categories to be awarded:

  • Most Original
  • Scariest
  • Most Intricate
  • Most Beautiful
  • Funniest
  • Sweetest
  • Creepiest

There will also be a People’s Choice Award. Remember, the sooner you hand in your entry, the longer it has to get votes for this category.

Note: Items such as pumpkins and gourds are permitted, but due to their limited shelf life, may need to be discarded before the display period ends.
