Nurturing the next generation of authors

Our Young Authors program is designed to empower kids ages kindergarten through high school to explore their imaginations, develop their writing skills and build self-confidence through the art of storytelling.

Dates: Jan. 1 - Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Submit stories to the library's Children's Department.

Young Authors Program Guidelines

  • Entries must be original and 1,000 words or less.
  • Limit one entry per author and/or illustrator
  • Include your first name and grade level with your entry.
  • Please write, type, or illustrate on blank 8.5x11 pages.

  • Short story (can include illustrations)
  • Poetry
  • Comic panels (Five page limit)
  • Illustrations
  • Fan Fiction

Elementary

  • Imagine you're a snowman, and write about your life...
  • If I had the chance to make the coolest snow fort EVER, I would...

Middle School

  • Once upon a time, I was flying in a sleigh...
  • If you were in the Winter Olympics, which sport would you choose to compete in and why? Write about your Olympic adventure and what it would be like!

High School

Students’ original stories will come to life in a published anthology which will be available during a public Young Authors Celebration on Sat., Feb. 24 at noon in the library's Lower Level.
