Bread and Wine

Shauna Niequist combines faith and food in all of her books. Both are comforting to me. She stresses the fact that feeding the people you love is nourishing on many levels.

The second book to Mortal Engines is full of new adventures. We learn more about tractionists and peaceful cities, as well as the Antitractionist League and Green Storm. Professor Pennyroyal, a so-called explorer, steals the Jenny Hanover. Tom and Hester must decide if they head onward to America to see if it’s green and able to be settled or go after their airship. Great story overall.

What to Say Next

I loved this book! It is an endearing story of an unlikely friendship that develops between a young man with Asperger's and a high school classmate who is trying to cope after the death of her father. His straight-forward honesty with her, and her acceptance of him and his "good weird" help each of them to grow as individuals, and to experience friendship in its truest form.

When No One is Watching
written by Jenn
When No One is Watching starts off slow and then the "thriller" aspect kicks in and doesn't recede. The pacing didn't quite match the book, and I was waiting for a long time before the overall plot twist is finally revealed.

Far and Near

Neil Peart is the long-time drummer for the band Rush. Being a Rush fan, however, is not a requirement to the enjoyment of his books, from which there are many to choose. He is a modern-day renaissance man with an adventurer's heart and strong opinions. He chronicles the many miles that he logs on his trusty motorcycle between shows while on tour. The reader will quickly ascertain that this man was meant to write. Enjoy!

Infernal Devices
written by Nicole
This is the third book of the Mortal Engines series. Here we find ourselves at least 15 years in the future after Tom and Hester settled on Anchorage. The story involves their daughter Wren who gets captured by the Lost Boys. Wren ends up on a vacation-type city called Brighton where Pennyroyal has ended up as Mayor. Meanwhile, the Green Storm has resurrected the Stalker Grike. Lots of details packed into 342 pages. Can Tom and Hester save Wren? Will Grike see Hester again?

Last Sacrifice

Final book in the Vampire Academy series. Rose is accused of killing the Queen so her friends break her out to find out who really did kill Queen Tatiana. While on the road with Dimitri and Sydney, Rose struggles between her love for Adrian and Dimitri. Lissa, while searching for clues, gets nominated to run for Queen. She takes the challenges and tests seriously but knows she needs a blood relative in order to move forward. Are there any more Dragomirs? Who will Rose ultimately chose-Adrian or Dimitri? Will they find the killer in time? Great conclusion of the series. Highly recommend!

Hidden Figures
written by Carolina
This book is about four African American women, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden, who worked at NASA. They helped launch our nation into space. The story occurred between the 1940s to 1960s. There was a lot of segregation, prejudice, and racism against these ladies and Black people in general.

Most of the people who worked at NASA were White males, so the ladies did not get paid equally or treated fairly. They showed their bosses and the other people who worked there that they deserved the same treatment and salary as the other men working there.

These ladies were very smart in math and science and helped NASA to put man on the moon.

This is a great book to read because it is a true story about racial inequality, women's rights, and not giving up on your dreams when people tell you otherwise.
