Prepare your young child for a lifetime of reading enjoyment in 15 minutes or less per day with the 1000 Books Reading Challenge.
This national program is designed to help parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers nurture early literacy skills and a love of reading before entering kindergarten. Repetition is encouraged, and the same book can be counted multiple times. It may sound daunting, but just by snuggling up with three picture books at bedtime each night, you’ll reach 1000 books in less than a year.
The 1000 Books Challenge encourages parents to write, talk, sing, and play with children, making learning relaxed and enjoyable for both caregivers and children. Activities are optional and include reading parties, singing songs, and cooking recipes from books.
Register at the library or online using the free Beanstack App in the App Store or Google Play. Visit the library’s Children’s Department to receive a keepsake booklet featuring more than 80 pages of sticker logs, activities and book recommendations, and a durable bag perfect for bringing your book haul home from the library.
Prizes will be awarded along the way, including books and early learning toys designed to promote literacy skills. For every 100-book milestone, your child’s name will be displayed on the 1000 Books Challenge Wall at the library.
