Tax Rebate Schedule

Wondering when your economic stimulus payment check will be sent?  They are being issued according to the last two-digits of the main tax filer's Social Security number.  For joint fliers, the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return.  For issuing dates, check the IRS site.

Operation Take Back Medications

Tuesday, April 22, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Oshkosh Senior Center Annex, 234 N. Campbell Rd., Oshkosh 

Drop off expired or unwanted human and pet prescriptions and over-the-counter prescriptions.  Pills, capsules, creams, ointments, inhalers, and liquids.  Leave medications in original containers with medication name and dosage showing.  Black out you name and address.  Don't flush them down the toliet.

Brett Favre Retiring

Tax Rebate Checks

IRS Commissioner, Linda Stiff, said the first rebate checks should arrive in early May and continue through the summer. Payments will range from $300 to $600 for individuals and $600 to $1,200 for joint tax filers. Taxpayers with children under age 17 can receive $300 per child.

What do you need to do to receive your rebate check?
If you file a 2007 tax return, the IRS will determine eligibility and payment amount.

What if you didn't earn enough to file a 2007 tax return or receive only veterans disability payments or Social Security pay?
You will be required to file a federal tax return too get the rebate check.
For these individuals, (1) Write "Stimulus Payment" across the top of the tax form (2) On line 14a on the 1040A tax form or line 20a on a 1040 form, enter Social Security benefits, railroad retirement payments or veterans disability and death benefits for 2007.

Digital Television Transition

On Feb. 17, 2009, television broadcasters will transmit only digital TV signals and not analog signals. Televisions (no matter what type) connected to cable, satellite, or one of the new telephone company fiber-optic services should continue to work as they do now. Televisions connected to an antenna might or might not work after Feb. 17, 2009. That depends on the type of TV. The links on our Digital Television webpage will provide more information on the transition.

Lunar Eclipse Tonight

 

Tonight is the last full lunar eclipse until 2010.  Starting at 7:43 p.m., Earth's shadow will move across the face of the moon. By 9 p.m., the moon's surface will be completely cast in Earth's dark shadow, causing it to glow a copper-red color.  The eclipse will be over by 9:51.  For a timeline of the eclipse, click here.

The Barlow Planetarium, at University of Wisconsin, Fox Valley, will be having a special event for the eclipse.  With the help of the NEWSTAR astronomy club, there will be outside observing of the eclipse through telescopes and binoculars. There will be a short presentation on eclipses in the planetarium starting at 7 PM and then eveyone will head outside to watch the eclipse starting at 7:30 PM. Fidel Castro Resigns, Raul Castro In?

Fidel Castro, president of Cuba, resigned Tuesday.  Leaders in Cuba plan to elect a president within days. Castro's brother Raúl, the country's defense minister, has been named publicly as his successor.  Fidel had given Raul power in July 2006 after surgery.
