  Consumer Reports Money Advisor

Small magazine (13-16 pages) on consumer money matters. Articles are short and informative. The library has been receiving this magazine since last year (2008). When doing personal research on long-term care insurance, I found an article in their August 2008 issue that was very helpful. Money tips every issue and also a “what’s on sale this month” box. Other articles I read were on cash-back credit cards, college savings plans, and challenging your property-tax assessment. Another good Consumer Report publication.  --SS

Cook's Illustrated

This bimonthly magazine was added to the Library's collection two years ago. Highly recommended for all cooks. Each issue features recipes, "how to" articles, illustrated quick tips, notes from readers, kitchen notes and equipment corner (new kitchen gadgets). Each recipe includes background information on the food, detailed information on how the writer prepared the recipe and then the actual recipe. Each article references the website where videos may be viewed. Photographs, diagrams, recommended products are also included with the recipes. One issue had ratings of vegetable broths and slicers, another olive oils and spatulas. Recipes can get elaborate, but the tips and notes from readers are wonderful. --SS

Women's Health

A new addition to the library's magazine collection this year. Don't let the shapely woman on the cover make you think this magazine is only about fitness. Inside you will find a wealth of topics covered. Issues I looked at had articles on nutrition, recycling, relationships, time-saving websites and the male brain. My favorite section is "In Focus" - each page focuses on a different topic like cooking, weight loss, health, style, couples, and "you can do this." Published by Rodale, who also publish Men's Health.  --SS
