Gunpowder Green by Laura Childs.

Theodosia Browning owns a tea shop, and gets involved in a murder investigation when a starting pistol explodes at a yacht race.  Way too much information about tea for me, but otherwise a pleasant enough read.  --SB

Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich. Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is searching for her missing grandma in Atlantic City when she crosses path with the mysterious and hunky Diesel. The cast of characters includes sidekick Lula, a leprechaun, a wiseguy with a skin rash, and a horse named Doug. --SB

Incomplete Revenge book coverAn incomplete revenge : a Maisie Dobbs novel.
by Jacqueline Winspear
Maisie Dobbs is a private investigator/psychologist in Great Britain after WWI. In this 5th book of the series, Maisie digs deep into the buried secrets of a small village that suffered terrible losses in WWI. Hired by a corporation that wishes to purchase a company in the village, Maisie investigates a string of fires and small acts of theft that appear to revolve around the owner of that company. The story involves a Gypsy band and the legacy of a zeppelin bombing raid during WWI that destroyed the house of a baker and his family and took their lives. Maisie grows increasingly suspicious of the secrecy that surrounds the village and demands her highest level of detection skills.

The mystery is rich with period detail that skillfully invokes the lives and the landscapes of the English people between the two great wars. This is a very gripping read that will to keep you up late at night.

The Burnt House by Faye Kellerman

Really enjoyed her new book - was sorry it ended. If you haven't read her earlier Lt. Peter Decker mysteries, you could read this as a stand-alone. Starts with a horrific plane crash and continues with plot twists. Kellerman is good at character development too - this features Decker and other detectives in his team. In earlier novels his wife was more involved but appears in this novel too - offering guidance, loving care and comfort food. Kellerman featured Decker's daughter as the main character in a recent book.

Check out Faye Kellerman or her equally good husband-writer, Jonathan Kellerman. Both are best-sellling, award-winning mystery authors.
