Tax Assistance

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) will offer free tax help to individuals and families.  VITA is a partnership between the Winnebago County UW Extension, the Oshkosh Area United Way, the IRS, UW-Oshkosh College of Business, Fox Valley Technical College , the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry and St. Vincent de Paul.  VITA is a free program to prepare taxes for low-to moderate-income individuals and families (those making $50,000 or below).  TCE is a partnership between the Oshkosh Seniors Center and the AARP Foundation.  This program is for low-to moderate-income taxpayers with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Appointments are required.  For appointments, call the Tax Assistance Help Line - hosted by the Oshkosh Area United Way - at (920) 651-3060.  The programs will begin Feb. 2 and continue through April 13.  The hours of operation will be:

  • Oshkosh Seniors Center, 234 Campbell Road, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:15-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:45 p.m.
  • Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, 2551 N. Jackson St., every Saturday from 9:14 a.m - 1 pm. from Feb. 4 to Mar. 31, and Monday evenings Mar. 12 & 26 from 4:15-6:30pm

For e-filed returns please wait up to one full week from the day acknowledgment is received.  For paper filing, please wait at least 12 weeks from the date you filed before calling. You will need to know your social security number and the exact dollar amount of your refund.
