Oshkosh Stories and Snapshots: Guidelines & Submission Form

As part of the City of Oshkosh sesquicentennial commemoration the Oshkosh Public Library is collecting stories of life in Oshkosh. We are looking for anecdotes of everyday experiences. For example, kids going to the free Saturday movies in South Park Gym. Stories do not have to be lengthy, just a quarter or half a page, as the subject calls for.

Guidelines for story submissions:

  • We encourage electronic submissions but will accept typed or handwritten stories.
  • At this time we prefer submissions limited to 1,000 words, with shorter submissions welcome if a story or anecdote is better told in a few sentences or paragraphs. If your story is longer than 1,000 words or book length, please contact us so we can describe the best method of submission.
  • We accept multiple submissions from any person.
  • Prose or poetry accepted.
  • If you are a reluctant writer but a great storyteller, please tell your story to a family member or friend, who can submit the story for you.
  • Please use only first names or other devices to protect yourself, the identity of children and adults, living or dead, who may not want personal information about them or their family members available on the Internet.
  • The Library reserves the right to edit submissions for content, spelling and grammar and other factors as necessary.

By submitting a story, you are granting permission for Oshkosh Public Library to publish your story in print or post your story on the Internet/World Wide Web. Stories not selected for use by the Library will be returned to the writer if the writer has provided contact information.
