Oshkosh Stories and Snapshots: Collecting Dynamite Wire

Collecting Dynamite Wire
Contributed by: Larry

Most of us collected something as a child, bottle caps, fool's gold, railroad spikes or anything else that one might find. One of the things I collected was dynamite wire. The Lutz Quarry was usually a 5-day operation, and blasting was done everyday at 4 p.m. That left all day Saturday to be able to climb down into the quarry and retrieve the spent wire. It came in a variety of colors and even multi-colors. It was a collection that only south-siders had.
