Conservationist Stanley Temple recounts the demise of the passenger pigeon, an event described as the iconic extinction event in our country's history. He traces the decline of this once abundant bird from billions to the last surviving passenger pigeon, which died in 1914 in a Cincinnati zoo. The 100-year anniversary of this event offers a valuable lesson about the world's ongoing extinction crisis and our relationship with other species
